The Girl That Was Kicked by a Horse
Once upon a time there was a little girl named Mimi…. She was a pretty good little girl, but every once in awhile, she would get into mischief…
Mimi was about 5 or 6 years old and she lived on a farm with her mom and dad, and her two older brothers, Jimmy and Donnie. She would sometimes help her Daddy and brothers out in the barn with the chores. On the farm, they had chickens and pigs, cows and horses… Some of the horses were big draft horses. These horses were very large and strong horses and their job was to haul the big, heavy farm equipment (like plows and heavy wagons) because way back then - there were no tractors on Mimi’s farm.
One evening, Mimi was helping her Daddy and brothers do chores out in the barn and she got too close to one of the big draft horses…. It did not like that and kicked at her. The horse’s hoof hit her in the forehead and she went flying! Her body landed several feet away and there was lots of blood! Her daddy and brothers thought for sure that she was dead! …. They rushed over to her and were very relieved to find that she was still breathing….
They ran over and picked up her little, limp body and rushed her to the farm house. There her mommy washed off her forehead with warm water and held her close and rocked her. Poor Mimi….. poor, poor Mimi…. There was an awful gash on her head and it was bleeding. She was covered in her own blood! Her Daddy helped her Mama hold a wash cloth with ice in it on her wound to help stop the swelling and to help stop the bleeding. Her mama also helped wash the blood off of her face.
After awhile, Mimi came to and cried because of her bad oowee…. Her mama told her what happened and told her that she would be ‘ok’ now…. Mimi had a very sore head for several days - but she did get better. Now Mimi is an ‘old’ grandma but she remembers how the horse kicked her and she still has a scar on her forehead where she was kicked. Mimi say that it’s important for children to always be very careful around farm animals – especially big ones, like horses!
