Grandma Makes Cookies by Connie Aldrich

Grandma was a farmer's wife. She learned to cook
and bake from her Mother and husband's Mother. She
gathered eggs and helped to milk the cows. She
helped her husband harvest the crops. She was a
happy farmer's wife! When she wasn't cleaning the
house, helping in the field, going to church and
hosting a Ladies' Aid "get together"; Grandma made a
lot of cookies.

Grandma made a lot of cookies!˜ Grandma made all
kinds of cookies. She made oatmeal coconut cookies,
chocolate cookies with chocolate frosting, chocolate
chip cookies, molasses cookies, pastry cinnamon
cookies, lemon butter cookies, cookies rolled in
white powdered sugar, peanut butter cookies, sugar
cookies... small, large, and funny-shaped. She
even had special "cookie cutter" cookies.

She baked them in wood stoves. She baked them on
fancy new stoves. She baked them at home and for
others while on vacation. Grandma baked cookies.

Who ate all the cookies? The family ate them. The
farmers ate them. The minister ate them. The
neighbors ate them. The grandchildren and great
grandchildren ate them. The relatives ate them.
And dignataries and visitors from other countries
ate them.

Oops! Just a moment! Gotta' go now. (I think I
hear Grandma stirring up another batch of cookies).
